CITYDANCE CONSERVATORY & PRE-CONSERVATORY 2025 SUMMER INTENSIVES

Our 2025 Summer Intensive offers a residency-style program for dancers (ages 9–19) seeking rigorous training and inspiring repertory experiences. Students will explore a range of genres—including classical ballet, modern, contemporary, and jazz—under the guidance of renowned guest artists, professional companies, and our esteemed in-house faculty. All programs require an audition.

Session I: Contemporary Performance Intensive with guest artists from Koresh Dance Company.
Dates: June 23 – July 11 (Monday–Friday, 10 AM–4 PM)
Location: North Bethesda, MD (Strathmore Music Center & Strathmore Square)
Sample Daily Schedule:
> 10:00 – 11:30 AM: Morning ballet class with guest and in-house faculty
> 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM: Morning modern class followed by a 30-minute lunch break and afternoon rehearsals with Koresh artists
>> Half-day enrollment option available (morning technique classes and/or specific weeks only; limited spots, approval required).

Session II: Classical Performance Intensive with guest artists Sarah Lane, Brooklyn Mack, and Michael Crawford
Dates: July 14 – August 1 (Monday–Friday, 10 AM–4 PM)
Location: North Bethesda, MD (Strathmore Music Center & Strathmore Square)
Sample Daily Schedule:
> 10:00 – 11:30 AM: Morning ballet class with guest and in-house faculty
> 11:30 – 12:15 AM: Pre-Pointe, Pointe or Boy’s/Men’s class with guest and in-house faculty
> 12:15 – 12:45 PM: Break

> 12:45 – 2:45 PM: Afternoon rehearsals for classical ensemble repertory and solo coaching

> 2:45 – 4:00 PM: Contemporary, Jazz or Modern classes

Drop-off will begin at 8:45 AM each day, and supervised activities will take place from 9:00–10:00 AM for students who need it.


Modern Technique Intensive with PHILADANCO! (Ages 13-19)

Dates: June 16 – 20

Daily Schedule:

> Mon, Tue, Wed: 5:00 – 8:30 PM **These dates are potential MCPS snow day make up dates and so classes are scheduled for evenings only. 

> Thu: (Juneteenth observed, no session on June 19)

> Fri: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Location(s): Strathmore / Strathmore Square

The program immerses students in the techniques and style of PHILADANCO! through classes and masterclasses in Horton and Graham, plus additional creative workshops led by current company artists. This program does not include repertory or ballet classes.


BAYE & ASA CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT INTENSIVE

NEW DATES: JULY 28 – AUGUST 1 (MONDAY–FRIDAY, 10 AM–4 PM)

Location: North Bethesda, MD (Strathmore Music Center & Strathmore Square)

Daily Schedule:

> 10:00 – 11:30 AM: Morning ballet class with guest artists and in-house faculty

> 11:30 AM – 4:00 PM: Morning modern class followed by a 30-minute lunch break and afternoon rehearsals with Baye & Asa

Rising Juniors, Rising Seniors, Graduating Seniors and invited students only


CHOREOGRAPHER-IN-RESIDENCE WITH ROBERT J. PRIORE

The Choreographer-in-Residence Intensive is back for Summer 2025! Award-winning choreographer Robert J. Priore will lead this intensive, focusing on contemporary jazz technique, the creation of new works, and the re-staging of signature works.

Dates:

> Week 1: August 11 – 15 (10 AM–4 PM)

> Week 2: August 18 – 22 (4:30 PM–8:30 PM)

Location: Strathmore Music Center & Strathmore Square

Daily Schedule: 1.5-hour technique class followed by rehearsals with Mr. Priore and his assistants


NEW! PRE-CONSERVATORY TECHNIQUE WITH CITYDANCE FACULTY & GUEST ARTISTS (Ages 9–13)

Designed to bridge the gap between spring and summer, as well as summer and fall, these full-day sessions include technique classes in ballet, modern, jazz and hip hop as well as specialized workshops. These programs are offered at our Friendship Heights and Falls Church locations for both new and returning Pre-Conservatory students.

Session I with guest artists from PHILADANCO!: June 16 – 20 (10 AM – 4 PM) | Friendship Heights, DC

Session II: August 4 – 15 (10 AM – 4 PM) | West Falls Church, VA


NEW! THE YOUNG TRAINING PROGRAM SUMMER INTENSIVE (7 –  9 Years)

We are excited to welcome students to our Summer Young Training Program (YTP) at two locations! This program offers a technique-focused curriculum led by both in-house and guest faculty, providing an enriching training experience. 

The YTP Summer Intensive will run for 6 consecutive weeks beginning June 23 and finishing July 31.  Students may enroll for multiple single-week sessions at either location. Tuition is $250 per week with early bird pricing of $225.

Friendship Heights Location: June 23 – July 31 (Session B1)

> Mondays & Thursdays (4:15 – 6:45 PM): Ballet technique + Jazz or Modern (alternating days)

> Wednesdays (4:15 – 5:45 PM): Ballet technique

Strathmore Square Location: June 23 – July 31 (Session B2)

> Mondays & Thursdays (4:15 – 6:45 PM): Ballet technique + Jazz or Modern (alternating days)

> Tuesdays (4:15 – 5:45 PM): Ballet technique


NEW! CONSERVATORY STUDIES WITH CITYDANCE FACULTY (AGES 9-18)

CityDance is excited to expand its summer offerings for Conservatory Studies students with full-day intensives, creative development workshops, and genre-specific masterclasses. These programs provide a comprehensive and enriching dance experience, led by CityDance Conservatory faculty. The full-day intensives focus on technique and artistic growth across multiple genres, including ballet, jazz, modern, and hip hop.

About Conservatory Studies: The Conservatory Studies program is a year-round track tailored for students seeking rigorous training without the full-time commitment of the Conservatory track. It is also ideal for those developing their foundational technique as they prepare to enter the full Conservatory program in future years, offering focused guidance to support their growth and aspirations.

Summer Intensives Guest Artist

International Guest Artist and Varna Gold Medal winner Brooklyn Mack has had a stellar career as a principal dancer with major dance companies around the nation and the world, including The Washington Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, The Hong Kong Ballet and English National Ballet to name only a few. A native of South Carolina, he began his training in Columbia, under Radenko Pavlovich and Milena Leben, before moving to DC to study at The Kirov Academy primarily under Anatoli Kucheruk and Vladimir Djouloukhadze.  After graduating from Kirov, He was invited to join The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago as an apprentice. From there he danced with the Orlando Ballet for three seasons before becoming a principal dancer with The Washington Ballet where he danced for 9 seasons. During his professional career he received the Princess Grace Award, and won Senior Silver medals at both the USA and Helsinki International Ballet Competitions. He also won a gold medal at the Boston International Ballet Competition, and the most coveted Grand Prix at the Istanbul International Ballet Competition, among many other awards and distinctions.

 Amadi ‘Baye’ Washington and Sam ‘Asa’ Pratt are childhood friends who grew up together in New York City and express that shared history in their choreography using Hip Hop and African dance style. They describe their work as employing ‘the rhythms of these techniques [to] inform the way we energetically confront contemporary dance, theater, and film.”  Their work has been performed at The Joyce Theater, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and Jacobs Pillow, among other prestigious venues. They’ve also created works for The Martha Graham Dance Company and Ailvin Ailey II.  Their award-winning film work has been presented internationally.

Israeli-born choreographer Ronen (Roni) Koresh founded Koresh Dance Company in 1991 in Philadelphia, PA., and since then the company has earned a reputation for being innovative, technically outstanding, versatile, and committed to exploring the expressive power of movement. Koresh simply describes his style as "dance" as it uses movement from all genres. The company's repertoire comprises more than 60 works by Koresh, as well as pieces by renowned guest choreographers including Donald Byrd, Robert Battle, Ohad Naharin, Itzik Galili and Paul Selwyn Norton. The company has performed internationally, touring Guatemala, Israel, Mexico, Spain, South Korea, and Turkey. Its school, founded in 1993, is committed to community building and outreach.

Summer Intensives Guest Artist

Sarah Lane joined American Ballet Theatre (ABT) in 2003 and quickly rose to the rank of Principal dancer with the company where she danced until 2020. A recipient of the Princess Grace Award in 2007 and Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts in 2008. She is currently an international guest artist who has performed around the world including Teatro dell’ Opera di Roma, Kremlin Ballet, Barcelona Ballet, NBA Ballet Company and Hong Kong Ballet. In addition, Sarah is also an ABT NTC fully certified teacher who has taught nationally and internationally at including but not limited to ABT, the Joffrey Ballet School,  Kansas City Ballet School, Steps on Broadway, and Barcelona Ballet. Lane has worked as a guest rehearsal director for American Repertory Ballet, alongside Ethan Stiefel and Gillian Murphy, Sarah is a certified Gyrokinesis instructor and a certified Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. Among her many accomplishments, she is a published writer whose articles have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Dance Magazine, Pointe Magazine, and Dance Spirit Magazine, and was Natalie Portman’s ballet double in the 2010 film “Black Swan.”
Michael Crawford

Summer Intensives Guest Artist

Michael Crawford trained, on scholarship, at some of the most prestigious institutions in the nation, including the Kirov Academy and the San Francisco Ballet.  He has performed principal roles with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, as well as with Jose Mateo Ballet, Ballet Memphis, American Repertory Ballet, Connecticut Ballet and Oakland Ballet.  He has been a Guest Artist with The Washington National Opera, Adam Miller Dance Project, Kinetic Dance Works, TranscenDance Group, Brooklyn Ballet and Ballet Neo.  He has taught and choreographed nationally and internationally for ten years and has coached prize-winning students for Youth America Grand Prix, NYC Dance Alliance, Showstoppers Dance Competition.  He is currently on the faculty at School of American Ballet, PACE University, and Marymount Manhattan College, and has taught at Broadway Dance Center, Steps on Broadway, and Princeton Ballet, to name a few.
