Young Training Program and Pre-Conservatory
Young Training Program & Pre-Conservatory
Program Overview
CityDance’s Young Training Program (YTP) and Pre-Conservatory Program (Pre-Con) provide students ages seven to thirteen with a high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and comprehensive dance curriculum, specifically designed for young, talented students who are passionate about dance.
Enrollment is by audition only, either through an individual in-class evaluation or during a scheduled group audition. Learn more about our audition process here or email inquiries@citydance.net and we will contact you to discuss the program further.
Program Description
CityDance’s YTP and Pre-Con programs are structured across six cohorts: YTP I (7-8 years old), YTP II (8-9 years old), and YTP III (9-10 years old). After YTP, students begin Pre-Conservatory: IV (10-11 years old), Pre-Conservatory V (10-12 years old), Pre-Conservatory VI (11-13 years old), before having the opportunity to enter our Pre-Professional Conservatory program.
Students in each cohort have a rigorous, but developmentally appropriate schedule, as well as the ability to further fortify their training through recommended supplemental classes. Students generally progress through each level in one year. However, we also support students who do best by staying in the same level for two years and/or moving up more quickly.
Training in classical ballet, contemporary, commercial, and culturally specific genres is required to ensure students have the proper training necessary to pursue dance at its highest levels. For our young students, the combination of technical classes throughout the week builds the physical skills needed to progress into the Pre-Professional Conservatory, which is a primary goal of the program. Through the process of learning an array of repertory pieces, students develop artistic and performative skills.
Supported by our world-class faculty, along with both in-house and guest choreographers, each child is nurtured and positively supported in their growth and development to reach the full potential of their gifts and talents.
Performance Opportunities
All students will perform in our end-of-year Spring Concert. Additionally, YTP and Pre-Con students are invited to perform in the Nutcracker Magical Christmas Ballet . Weekly rehearsals for both Nutcracker and the Spring Concert are built into the regular schedule throughout the year.
