CityDance Ensemble conducts two-week concert tour to Chile

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 22, 2009

Washington, DC—CityDance Ensemble announces a two-week tour of Chile from May 23-June 7, 2009, funded in part by the United States Department of State. While in Chile, the company will teach and perform in Talca, Temuco, Santiago, and Valparaiso.

“Chile is a destination that we have wanted to go to since CityDance first started thinking about touring internationally,” comments Paul Gordon Emerson, the company’s Co-Founder and Artistic Director. “Just days after returning from our tour to the Middle East, traveling to Chile will be a real honor for us. Seeing these two parts of the world in such a close time frame will offer an unparalleled perspective, and we’re humbled to serve as cultural ambassadors to both regions.”

The tour to Chile developed largely out of a partnership with the Chilean Embassy and Chilean choreographer Isabel Croxatto. Artistic Director of  Grupo Abundanza, Ms. Croxatto first came to CityDance as a guest master teacher in 2007 and later choreographed a dance for the company.

“Isabel has that grace, passion, and depth that we always look for in choreographers. And she holds a deep commitment to the environment,” notes Mr. Emerson. “It just made sense to bring her into our project on climate change and she made an exquisite work for CityDance called Revolution of the Butterflies. We’re looking forward to performing this piece in Isabel’s home country.”

In addition to performing Revolution of the Butterflies while on tour in Chile, CityDance will further highlight its commitment to climate change issues by performing Rehearsal Director & Choreographer-in-Residence Christopher K. Morgan’s Thirst, a dance about the environment and human greed. CityDance will also perform Entangled by Mr. Emerson, For What Was by Meisha Bosma, Ties that Bind by Mr. Morgan, and Scorched by Kate Weare.
