Early Arts Company pic

Throughout the school year, CityDance Ensemble's professional dance company presents programs for pre-K through 8th grade children throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The company is committed to making dance more accessible by bringing live performance from the area’s top professionals to students throughout the region.

Concerts in Schools
CityDance Early Arts regularly performs concerts in more than 40 elementary and middle schools in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The program always includes demonstrations of ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern, as well as other dance styles. Students in the audience are actively encouraged to participate by contributing ideas, learning dance moves, and choreographing their own movement with the Early Arts company members. Early Arts can also provide teacher guides to accompany its in-school concerts.

Dancing in One Language
The Dancing in One Language program teaches students about dance as a universal language. With company members speaking several different languages throughout the program, dance is woven throughout as a means of common expression through movement, choreography, and emotions. Students are encouraged to examine choreography and music to discover the stories and feelings presented in each dance. Students are also given the opportunity to create movements that can express emotion without the use of words. Ultimately, the program leaves students with the knowledge that dance -- no matter what your native language is -- allows you to communicate with everyone.

Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Books
In this original adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's Jungle Books, the jungle comes to life with Mowgli, Baloo, Shere Khan and other characters from the classic tales. As told by Kipling himself, students will see monkeys, wolves, bears, snakes, and more as Mowgli, a young boy raised in the jungle, learns lessons of perseverance, courage, and friendship from his animal companions. With characters leaping, prancing, and pouncing their way into every student's heart, Jungle Books is a wonderful ride of mischief, magic, and imagination. The Jungle Books school presentation is an adaptation of CityDance's celebrated annual evening-length concert version. See excerpts of Jungle Books in concert.
