The making of a dance is a crazy, complicated process. No two choreographers work the same way. Over the years, the way that dances get made changes. For CityDance, original music, changing themes, and an endless number of variables go into creating a new work.
With that in mind, CityDance has selected four dances to offer an inside look at the creative process. Each work is a different case study. Revolution of the Butterflies is a work about, and dedicated to, the state of our climate. Folksay and Harmonica Breakdown are classic reconstructions from the 1930s and 1940s. Falling is an intimate look at a relationship built with and around a live and original score. Jungle Books is CityDance's signature family concert, with a rich and complex set, exceptional costuming and make-up, and a world of magical characters.
Each piece, in its own way, is a snapshot and opportunity to take a look behind the creative curtain. |
